With hunger affecting 828 million people in 2021 – an increase of about 46 million people since 2020, and 150 million since 2019 – we recognise the increased importance partnerships play in taking action to build a sustainable world where everyone, everywhere has regular access to enough nutritious food.
World Food Day 2022 launches a call to action to make sure that no one is left behind through the transformation of agrifood systems for better production, better nutrition, a better environment, and a better life. Guided by our purpose of Transforming Lives Through the Science of Food, we’re taking action in ways that progress us forward toward a better world for all, together.
Better Nutrition: Partnerships to prevent hunger
Hunger is at a new high and continues to rise every day as a result of ongoing threats to global food security, including pandemic, conflict, climate change, rising food prices and environmental degradation. Our work to prevent hunger is made possible by excellent partnerships we have with food banks across the world and our colleagues who donate their time and resources to make a difference in the communities where we operate.
Since 2020, we’ve supported food banks to provide nearly 3 million meals to those in need and our colleagues have spent hundreds of hours volunteering to pack meals for distribution through communities.
Better Production & Better Environment: Partnerships supporting sustainable agriculture
Our sustainable agriculture programmes focus on the agricultural raw materials where we have the biggest opportunity to make a positive impact: stevia and corn. With expert partners, we work with farmers to improve their environmental stewardship and positively impact the communities where they live and work.

Better Life: Partnerships reducing inequalities and promoting wellbeing
Healthy living is about more than just diet. By supporting health education and physical activity programmes around the world, we are also helping people understand the role that diet, physical exercise and mental wellbeing can have on their health.
Since 2020, we’ve supported 70,000 people with health, nutrition and wellbeing programmes. Our goal is to support the lives of over 250,000 people by 2025.
Better Future: Accelerating impact together
We plan and budget for our community involvement programme annually, which allows us to work with current and new partners towards a better future. If you are interested in partnering with Tate & Lyle, please email us at community@tateandlyle.com with details on opportunities where we can make the most difference.
As a global community, we each have a role to play in creating a sustainable world where everyone counts and our commitment to building stronger, more equitable and inclusive communities where we work and live around the world stands stronger today.
Our goal is not just to feed people, but to feed them well. Together, we need to be the change.
